At this time, I only have my current work in progress to give a sneak peek. So, read this exerpt taken from Chapter 13 of Agnus the Beast (Working title)

Agnus the Beast – Part of Chapter 13

Just as Agnus was getting used to the calming affects of the weather and her very quiet companions, the lead dwarf spoke up. “Halt,” he commanded in common tongue. “Do you feel that?”

The horses began to neigh and clomp around. Something spooked them. Teripar and Jessipar both looked toward the northern foothills before the mountains. In the grasslands leading up to the foothills have small pockets of sand that has never been explained. When she looked over at the closest pocket, the sand seemed to create a funnel into the ground.

Agnus looked towards the two elves as she felt the ground shift. She gazed to the others in the group as they felt the same shifting. After some moments, the ground started to tremor violently. It felt more like an earthquake was headed toward the group.

Oof! The gnome gasped.

Agnus looked over at him and saw that he was on the ground, stumbling to get back up.

It was then that the group created a semi-circle while the depressions in the sand headed towards them. The tremors threatened to toss the whole group off balance.

“Blazes!” the dwarf exclaimed.

A low growl echoed through the area.

Agnus and the others watched as depressions in the ground appeared. Some parts of the area went deeper than others. Agnus frowned as she saw that the depressions seemed to form a line. Her ears caught a vague popping sound coming from below the ground. As she listened, it became noticeable that the tremors occurred in time with the appearance of these depressions which began to show holes.

Agnus’ eyes widened at the sudden realization of what was happening.

“MOVE! Get out of that path!” she bellowed.

Just as they hustled out of the blast line, everyone heard a male voice screech.

“AHHH! Hel-!” and then there was nothing but sand smoke filling the air.
